CAIAC Logo Contest
Date: 2008-06-20
|
|
Dear CAIAC members,
As many of you know, we announced a contest in April 2008 to have a new
logo designed for the society. Due to the small number of entries
received, the CAIAC Executive has decided to reopen this competition,
with a new deadline of July 18, 2008. Please find the revised contest
announcement below. We hope that you will help us in distributing this
as widely as possible. In particular, we believe that students will be
a very good source of ideas, and we would ask you to consider forwarding
this to students at your institutions.
Please note that a PDF poster is also available here. If you
would be willing to print a few copies of this poster and post them
throughout your departments, offices, etc., it would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your support.

CSCSI Name Change
Date: 2008-04-01
|
Dear members of the CSCSI/SCEIO,
As many of you will recall, we circulated an e-mail in December
proposing that the name of the society be changed from CSCSI/SCEIO to
CAIAC, an acronym formed by joining together the English acronym CAIA
(Canadian Artificial Intelligence Association) and the French acronym
AIAC (Association pour l'intelligence artificielle au Canada).
Motivations behind this suggestion included the need for a more
distinctive name that is easier for people to remember, to pronounce and
to associate with AI in Canada, as well as the desire to have a single
name that works well in both official languages.
We received 34 ballots from society members, with 33 YES votes and 1 NO
vote submitted. Based on this support from the membership, we are
pleased to announce that we will be moving forward with the name change.
The official transition will take place at this year's AI/GI/CRV/IS
conference in Windsor (May 28-30, 2008).
As mentioned in the initial proposal, references to the society's former
name (CSCSI/SCEIO) will be included on future communications from the
association, in order to honour the society's long-standing history and
to help preserve historical continuity. Thank you for your continued
support!
